Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state of continued welfare support and adequate security throughout their service year.
Fubara gave the assurance on Monday during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II NYSC Orientation Course held at the Permanent Orientation Camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area of the state.
A total of 3,512 corps members, comprising 1,572 males and 1,940 females, were sworn in during the ceremony by the Chief Judge of Rivers State, represented by Justice Prince Mini.
The governor was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Bureau in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Samson Dede, who conveyed the administration’s commitment to sustaining peace, security, and development in the state.
He also reaffirmed government support for the NYSC scheme, describing corps members as key contributors to national unity and grassroots development.
Fubara urged the corps members to take full advantage of the orientation programme, especially the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training, which he said remains essential for self-reliance after service.
He encouraged them to actively participate in all camp activities and make the most of their stay in the state.
In his remarks, the Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Moses Oleghe, described corps members’ deployment to Rivers State as a valuable opportunity for personal growth and development.
Oleghe thanked the state government for its continued support, including the donation of 2,500 brand-new mattresses to improve welfare at the orientation camp.
He said Rivers State remains a preferred destination for corps members due to the enabling environment and cooperation from stakeholders.
