The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned and handed over a Community IT Centre in Ihugh, Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State as part of efforts to expand digital access and promote technological development in rural communities.
In a statement released by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, the agency said the project was implemented in partnership with the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to strengthen digital inclusion and improve access to information and communication technology in underserved areas.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, and other senior government officials.
The centre is designed to serve as a community hub for digital learning, innovation, entrepreneurship, and socio-economic empowerment.
According to the statement, the facility will provide ICT training and capacity-building programmes targeted at equipping residents with digital skills needed to participate in the modern economy.
It added that the centre will also support small businesses, startups, and young innovators by providing access to digital tools and resources for development and growth.
The agency said the initiative is expected to benefit youth, women, and entrepreneurs in the community, while also promoting digital inclusion at the grassroots level.
Officials at the event said the project aligns with the Federal Government’s broader agenda of using technology to drive sustainable development, job creation, and economic empowerment.
They added that investments in both digital infrastructure and human capital remain essential to building a technology-driven society that improves livelihoods and expands opportunities.
The Community IT Centre in Ihugh is part of a wider national effort to ensure rural communities are not left behind in Nigeria’s ongoing digital transformation.
