Algeria has made great progress on the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline project with its initiation of construction for a very important section of the pipeline to convey Nigerian gas to Europe.
This is an important boost for the $13 billion Nigeria-Europe gas pipeline.
The participation of Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, along with delegations from Nigeria and Niger in the groundbreaking welding phase for the pipeline project gave new impetus to the project.
The project is said to marks the start of actual construction of the much-anticipated project.
According to recent information, the new pipeline section will have a length of about 1,210 kilometers, extending from the border area of Niger and Algeria to the Algerian city of Aoulef.
From where, it is going to be linked with the gas networks of Algeria, which will then move towards Hassi R’Mel natural gas field.
After being incorporated into the system, the pipeline is expected to deliver the natural gas to export terminals in Beni Saf, in the west of Algeria, and El Kala in the east, near the border with Tunisia.
This announcement marks an important milestone for the transcontinental pipeline project, whereby Algeria will become an important transit country in support of Nigeria’s strategy of exporting gas to Europe.
