2027: Omo-Agege Endorses Peter Obi, Maintains Support For Tinubu’s Economic Reforms

Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has declared his support for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

He clarified that he still stands by the core economic policies introduced by the current administration of President Bola Tinubu.

He spoke recently during a media appearance on a TV station.

The former senator addressed the perceived contradiction in backing Obi shortly after defending Tinubu’s fiscal agenda.

Omo-Agege explained that his recent departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) was prompted by a feeling that the party had abandoned both him and his vast support base in Delta State, rather than a disagreement over economic direction.

The former lawmaker insisted that his stance on major national reforms remains consistent. He specifically highlighted the removal of the petrol subsidy and the liberalization of the naira as essential measures for the country’s stability.

Omo-Agege pointed out that these specific economic strategies were not unique to the President, noting that Obi had also championed similar reforms during his own campaign.

According to him, the fundamental issue is not the quality of the policies themselves, which he continues to describe as necessary, but rather the level of public trust in the leadership overseeing them.

Omo-Agege argued that his move to a new political platform allows him to support the same reformative goals under a leader he believes the Nigerian public trusts more.

He suggested that while the current administration’s policies are sound, a portion of the population feels uneasy about their execution.

He maintained that the Nigerian electorate would likely feel more secure and optimistic if the same economic adjustments were managed by the former Anambra State Governor.

By backing Obi, Omo-Agege claims he is choosing a leader he believes can implement these difficult but vital changes more effectively and with greater public buy-in than the incumbent president.
