Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs has won the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship primary in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area with over 1300 votes.
The primary, held at the Black Duke Memorial Hall, witnessed a massive turnout of party faithful who queued behind the aspirant.
Lulu-Briggs, who arrived at the venue alongside Chief Sara-Igbe and other party chieftains, was accredited and voted via the A4 option.
Speaking after his victory, Lulu-Briggs described the process as smooth, fair and credible. “We arrived at consensus for the House of Representatives. For the Senate, we had only one candidate who emerged by affirmation. The same applied to the presidential candidate,” he said.
He noted that the House of Assembly primary in Constituency 1 produced a sole candidate by affirmation, while in Constituency 2, one aspirant stepped down for the only female contestant in the race.
“This should tell the whole world that we should give opportunities to our local women,” Lulu-Briggs added.
The aspirant polled over 1,300 votes, with all delegates voting directly without proxies.
He pledged that his manifesto, upon emerging as the party’s flag bearer, would focus on exponentially expanding the state’s economy.
The NDC Primary Election Chairman in Akuku-Toru, Chief Ikechukwu Eze, hailed the exercise as peaceful and commended the heavy presence of security operatives, including police, armed security agencies, Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Former PANDEF spokesperson, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, described the large turnout as a clear signal of the people’s desire for change.
“This battle is not a Kalabari battle. This battle is for the survival of Rivers State. Rivers State must be liberated,” he declared.
