Nollywood star Genevieve Nnaji has spoken about her hopes for stronger collaboration among filmmakers across Africa, saying she would love to see more productions that bring together talents from different parts of the continent.
The actress and producer made this known during a conversation on the Deadline Podcast, where she shared her long-standing dream of seeing African creatives work together on more intercontinental projects that showcase the continent’s diverse stories and cultures.
Nnaji, who produced and directed Lionheart, the first Nigerian film acquired by Netflix, also expressed excitement about the increasing number of women stepping into key roles in the Nigerian film industry.
“I think my dream has always been that we have some intercontinental production within the African region. And I can’t wait to see that happen.
“Seeing a lot more female producers, directors, and filmmakers come up is also very inspiring to me. The industry is barely 40 years old, but we’ve achieved so much in such a short time,” she said.
She also pointed out that Nigerian and African stories still have a lot more ground to cover, noting that the industry is only just getting started despite its progress so far.
“I think we just started. I think, you know, time is still very young, and we have a lot more to achieve,” she added.
