The Rivers State Police Command has arrested an Assistant Superintendent of Police following the alleged escape of the suspected criminal from their custody.
The arrest is followed by disciplinary action against the officer and the search for the escaping suspect resumes, says the Command’s statement issued on Friday.
The spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Kaborlo Agabe, said that after analyzing the event, it has been determined that an assistant superintendent of police named Ekawhe Thomas attached to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), should be held responsible and consequently arrested.
According to the spokesperson, the official will be formally asked questions regarding the event to determine what went wrong during the procedure.

The investigations are going on to discover how the suspect escaped, the spokesperson stated.
Meanwhile, the statement indicated that plans are underway to apprehend the fleed suspect whose location remain unknown.
Following the situation, Commissioner of Police of Rivers State (CP), Olugbenga Adepoju, expressed dissatisfaction over the case.
He also stated that the command will not condone any form of neglect, misconduct, or abuse of office by any of its personnel, further stating that all officers found guilty after investigation will receive firm action according to police regulations.
The police command assured the general public of its resolve to maintain integrity, justice, and respect for citizens’ rights.
