The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified four House of Representatives aspirants in Rivers State ahead of its National Assembly primaries for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, also released the lists of affected aspirants across other states, including Ondo, Bauchi, Ebonyi, and Kogi, as part of the ongoing screening exercise.
Morka explained that the screening process was conducted by designated party committees in line with established guidelines to determine eligibility for participation in the primaries across constituencies.
In Rivers State, those not cleared included Air Commodore John Azubuike Opara (rtd) (Port Harcourt Federal Constituency) and Hon. Anderson Allison Igbiki (Okrika/Ogu-Bolo Federal Constituency).
Others were Awaji Imombek D. Abirite (Andoni/Opobo-Nkoro Federal Constituency) and Hon. Boma Goodhead (Asari-Toru/Akuku-Toru Federal Constituency).
The party did not provide specific reasons for the disqualification of the affected aspirants, simply categorising them as “not cleared” after the screening exercise.
Morka noted that the exercise was carried out by the party’s screening committees in accordance with its internal rules and procedures.
He further confirmed that the House of Representatives primaries are scheduled to hold on 18 May.
Clarifying reports circulating around membership requirements, Morka stated that APC members are not required to present proof of payment of party dues to vote in the ongoing primary elections.
He added that such requirements applied only to aspirants and their sponsors during the submission of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms, as well as during screening.
Morka urged party members and stakeholders to disregard contrary claims and ensure peaceful participation in the ongoing primaries without disruption.
