Osinbajo Inaugurates Road, Hospital in Bayelsa, Hails Diri’s Delivery

Nigeria’s former vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday commissioned the Agbura–Oxbow Lake Road and the Oporoma Referral Hospital in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area in Bayelsa State.

The Port City News (TCPN) learnt that Osinbajo, while serving as vice president in 2022, inaugurated the construction of the 630-metre Angiama–Oporoma Bridge across the River Nun.

The project was designed to provide road access to the Southern Ijaw headquarters.

He attended the latest event at the invitation of Governor Douye Diri.

In his address at the ceremony, Osinbajo praised the governor for executing projects he described as impactful and transformative.

He noted that the newly completed road now links major public institutions, including the NCDMB Towers, the Federal Secretariat and the Central Bank of Nigeria headquarters in the state.

Reflecting on his previous visit, he said the governor had fulfilled promises made at the time, pointing to the now-completed bridge as evidence of that commitment.

Osinbajo also highlighted the broader significance of the infrastructure, noting that it opens up the Ogbia axis, home to the Federal University, Otueke, as well as Oloibiri, the historic location where crude oil was first discovered in Nigeria.

He added that he’s honoured to return and inaugurate the projects.

In his remarks, Diri recalled that President Bola Tinubu had earlier visited the state to inaugurate the bridge. He explained that Osinbajo had intended to join that visit but was out of the country at the time.

Diri further stated that the construction phase created employment opportunities for hundreds of young people from surrounding communities.

Osinbajo’s visit came weeks after Tinubu commissioned several infrastructure projects across the state as part of ongoing efforts to improve urban development and strengthen connectivity in the capital, Yenagoa.

A key highlight of that earlier visit was the inauguration of the 2.9-kilometre dual carriageway, New Yenagoa City Road One, which connects directly to Airport Road.

The project forms part of the state government’s urban renewal drive aimed at expanding the city and easing traffic flow along major routes.
