In a significant step towards resuming oil exploration in Ogoniland, the Beeri and Nyorkuru communities have jointly donated 40 acres of land for the proposed Ogoni Industrial Park.
The official handover of the land took place at Nyorkuru/Beeri on Thursday April 16 2026 with the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, receiving the property on behalf of the Federal Government.
The event was led by the Chairman of the Ogoni Dialogue Committee (ODC), Professor Don Baridam who was accompanied by members of the Confidence Building Projects Monitoring Sub-Committee.
Other members of the delegation included Arch. Bishop Ignatius C. O. Kattey, Rear Admiral Nicholas Bakpo (Rtd), Prof. Barineme Fakae, Comr. Dimkpa Kingsley, Comr. Collins Lebeteh Kenneth, and Comr. Noble Obari Nwolu.
According to the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Engr. Ogbe, the Industrial Park project is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing confidence-building measures aimed at facilitating dialogue on the resumption of oil activities in the region.
After the handover, the ODC team proceeded to the Taabaa General Hospital, another key confidence-building project, where they observed substantial progress in its rehabilitation..
The ceremony drew prominent Ogoni leaders and stakeholders, including traditional rulers from Nyorkuru and Beeri communities, Senator Lee Maeba, and Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Dekor.
