Eleme LGA Boss Moves To Tackle Drug Abuse

Ollor

The Chairman of Eleme Local Government in Rivers State, Chief Obarilomate Ollor, has expressed a strict stance against the misuse of hard drugs within the council.

He made this statement during the reorganisation of the Eleme Youth Council (EYC) at Nchia, the historical home of the Eleme people.

The chairman warned young people against engaging in cult activities and drug misuse, labelling these behaviours as significant obstacles to individual and communal growth.

He announced the initiation of efforts to combat illegal drug activities throughout the council, emphasising that the government would not accept any form of criminal behaviour.

“Starting this week, we will launch operations to close down all places where drugs are being sold. Many young individuals are unable to reach their full potential because of addiction. This needs to end,” he stated.

Ollor praised the youth of Eleme for their support, stating that they have played a significant role in maintaining peace in the region.

He mentioned that his administration is implementing strategies to uphold and enhance this peace. The chairman emphasised that his government is determined to fulfil its commitment to empowering the youth throughout the council.

He shared that his own experience within the youth leadership framework has motivated him to create opportunities for future generations.

“Having emerged from the Youth Council, I recognise the significance of providing young individuals with the proper platform to succeed. Success at the grassroots level enables one to rise and lead,” he remarked.

Ollor disbanded the Eleme Youth Council and introduced a more inclusive organisation, clarifying that the newly formed council will include the youth leaders from the 10 clans of Eleme.

He mentioned that the council would also feature newly established branches focusing on women, security, employment, and empowerment.

He explained that the restructuring came after thorough discussions with important stakeholders, such as traditional leaders, political figures, and community representatives, to ensure that the process adhered to the constitutional and traditional frameworks of the Eleme people.

“The new Youth Council accurately represents our people’s structure and will act as a collective voice for all youths in Eleme, also the relevant security agencies and institutions would be officially informed of the new leadership,” he stated.

The chairman instructed security personnel, including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and Area Commander, to enforce the government’s directives and issued a warning to take appropriate action.

Ollor also officially opened the newly built Eleme Motor Park to boost transportation and facilitate commercial activities in the region.
