Operatives of the Ekeki Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Bayelsa State have detained a pastor and his wife over the alleged abuse of a 13-year-old girl in Yenagoa, the state capital.
Police sources confirmed that the couple was arrested following a complaint concerning the alleged sexual abuse of the minor.

The wife was also taken into custody for allegedly facilitating and funding an illegal abortion after the girl reportedly became pregnant.
The arrest reportedly took place during a church service, causing confusion among worshippers. Eyewitnesses said the pastor initially attempted to evade arrest but later turned himself in after his wife was apprehended on the church premises.
According to accounts shared with journalists, the teenager alleged that the abuse occurred multiple times between November 2025 and early 2026. Advocacy group Women Against Gender-Based Violence and Do Foundation, which is supporting the case, stated that an initial interview with the victim suggested the incidents took place both at the church and at the pastor’s residence.
The organisation further alleged that the suspect took advantage of the girl during visits to deliver food items to his wife. Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and the suspects remain in custody pending further inquiries. The police have assured the public that due process will be followed and that the matter will be handled in accordance with the law.
