The highly anticipated Super Eagles list for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) was released on Thursday night.
The Port City News (TCPN) reported that Eric Chelle, head coach of Nigeria’s men’s national team, unveiled his provisional squad for the tournament in early December.
However, the newly released list featured several unexpected names while some expected players were excluded.
In the goalkeeping department, the previously doubtful Stanley Nwabali made the cut, Maduka Okoye was dropped, while Francis Uzoho returned. Amas Obasogie was also named among the goalkeepers.

The squad included established players such as Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze – footballers who featured in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers – along with fresh additions.
In midfield, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka all made the squad, among others.
The Super Eagles aimed to lift their fourth AFCON title when the tournament, scheduled to begin on 21 December in Morocco and end in January 2026, kicked off.
Nigeria had previously claimed the prestigious trophy on three occasions.
