Tinubu Hails Super Eagles’ 4-0 Win, Urges 2026 WC Qualification

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Nigerian Super Eagles following their decisive 4-0 victory over the Cheetahs of the Benin Republic.

Tinubu, in a press release signed by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, praised the team for keeping the nation’s hopes for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification alive.

The President commended the national team for the “hunger, passion, and determination” they displayed during the match played in Uyo.

He noted that the superlative performance has successfully rekindled the football pride of Nigerians.

“While the job is not yet complete, I join millions of Nigerian football fans in wishing our team every success in the playoffs,” Tinubu stated.

He added that the prevailing mood across the country reflects a shared conviction that Nigeria rightfully belongs in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

The President assured the players and the coaching staff of the Federal Government’s (FG) unwavering support as they work toward securing their place in the global tournament.

“Nigerians everywhere believe in you, and I do too. We look forward to seeing you fly our flag proudly on the world stage,” he noted.

The victory propels the Super Eagles into the play-off stage of the qualification process, maintaining their pursuit of a spot in the upcoming World Cup.

Victor Osimhen’s hat-trick, along with a goal from substitute Frank Onyeka at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, secured the Super Eagles a place in the playoffs, where they are set to face Gabon, Cameroon, DR Congo, or Madagascar.
