Tinubu to Open 2025 Editors Conference in Abuja

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has announced that the All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC) 2025 is set to hold in Abuja from November 3 to 6. The annual gathering, regarded as the largest assembly of editors and media executives in the country, will focus on strengthening democratic governance and national cohesion.

In a statement on Sunday, NGE President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, said the event will be declared open by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Themed “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors,” the conference will also feature a sub-theme on “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027.”

According to the Guild, this year’s meeting will interrogate the role of editors in fostering democratic values, unity, and trust, especially as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections. Discussions will also explore strategies to counter divisive narratives and highlight opportunities for editors to promote inclusion and stability across Nigeria’s diverse society.

The statement noted that President Tinubu, opposition leaders, government officials, and key stakeholders have repeatedly underscored the importance of the media in building national cohesion despite political, ethnic, and religious differences.

“In the face of socio-economic challenges, there is need for unity in diversity, shared values, dialogue, and understanding to strengthen national cohesion,” the Guild said.

The opening ceremony will be attended by top government officials, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; governors, diplomats, and representatives of the private sector.

The conference programme will feature a keynote address on the central theme, alongside panel sessions and papers such as: “Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics,” “State of the Nation: Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation,” and “The Evolving Face of Journalism: Battling Misinformation, AI Disruption, and Credibility Gap.”

Other sessions will address issues around media, national security, and post-retirement investment opportunities for editors.

Over 500 participants from Nigeria and abroad are expected to attend the conference, which will be hosted in Abuja for the second time in 12 years.
