Ibinabo Fiberesima Brings Ijaw Heritage to Big Screens

Ibinabo Fiberesima, the accomplished actress, ex-beauty queen, and former president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, recently lit up the red carpet at the premiere of her epic film Amanyanabo: The Eagle King in Lagos.

This film is a powerful historical epic, directed by Fred Amata and produced (pro bono) by Ibinabo to preserve and celebrate Ijaw cultural legacy. It tells the dramatized tale of King Ibanichuka Ado VI of Okrika (reigning c. 1816–1896), dramatizing his diplomatic triumphs, internal strife, and colonial resistance .

The global premiere took place in the UK—London, Manchester, and Birmingham—on 29 August 2025, followed by the Nigerian nationwide cinema release set for 12 September 2025 .

Dressed in vibrant traditional attire, Ibinabo was seen dancing exuberantly in the cinema, sharing joyful videos across her social (platforms. In her post, she enthused, “How do I begin to say Thank you, Amanyanabo The Eagle King, premiered in Lagos Nigeria yesterday and it was awesome.”

She reminded fans that the film will be released nationwide on 12th September, urging, “please do go and watch and let’s get your reviews.”

“Amanyanabo has come home. The Royal Dancers of Wakrike were there to add colour. History is coming to the big screen.

“For the first time ever, a Nigerian South-South epic film, Amanyanabo: The Eagle King, lands in London. This isn’t just a movie—it’s a cultural event.“

Born on 13 January in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to a Nigerian father and an Irish mother, Ibinabo began her education at the Y.M.C.A. Play Centre before attending Federal Government Girls College, New Bussa. She earned a Bachelor’s in English Language and Literature from the University of Ibadan and later secured a Master’s in Audio-Visual Management from Media Business School in Ronda, Spain .

Her modeling career took off with early pageant successes—she won Miss Wonderland in 1990, placed first runner-up in Miss Nigeria 1991, and later secured high placements in MBGN contests .

Ibinabo made her acting debut in the thriller Most Wanted (1998), going on to star in numerous Nollywood films and eventually becoming the first female president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
