Rivers State Government says it will start implementing tree planting in all local government areas in the state, as contained in the education curricular of the state.
Director of Academic Service in the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board, Mrs. Joy Ambakederemo, made this known at a tree planting campaign exercise organized by a non-government organization: Journalists for Sustainable Development Initiative, at Community Secondary School Rumuapara in Obio-Akpo Local Government Area of the State.
Mrs. Ambakederemo thanked the organization for deeming it fit to sensitise the students on the need to protect their surroundings through tree planting.
Earlier, the Director of Journalists for Sustainable Development Initiative, Dr. Parry Benson, said there is a need for collective efforts by government and individuals to ensure that the environment is sustained and managed for human existence.

Dr. Benson called for concerted effort to address the complex challenges posed by global warming and climate change.
The Principal of Community Secondary School Rumuapara, Dr. Woko Adaibea, and some students of the school, commended the organisation for the tree planting campaign and pledged their continuous support for exercise through the maintenance trees planted in the school environment.
