Hamburger SV has achieved significant success in the transfer market, as Nigerian centre-back Jordan Torunarigha is set to join the club on a free transfer, pending a medical examination scheduled for this week.
The 27-year-old defender, whose contract with Belgian club KAA Gent has recently concluded, has finalised an agreement with the newly promoted Bundesliga team, representing a crucial advancement in his career.
This news was exclusively disclosed by Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg on X, emphasising the completed deal and the forthcoming medical.
Torunarigha, a former German youth international who opted to represent Nigeria in 2023, garnered considerable interest from various clubs, including RSC Anderlecht, Olympique Marseille, and FC Köln.
Nevertheless, HSV’s sporting director, Stefan Kuntz, and head coach Steffen Baumgart played a crucial role in persuading the imposing defender to return to Germany.
The 1.91m centre-back brings extensive experience, having made 73 Bundesliga appearances for Hertha BSC prior to his 2022 transfer to Gent, where he participated in 145 matches, netting four goals.

His defensive skills, speed, and capability to play from the back render him a significant asset to HSV as they gear up for their Bundesliga comeback.
Kuntz, who coached Torunarigha during his tenure with Germany’s U21 and Olympic squads, utilised their previous relationship to finalise the agreement.
With his medical appointment scheduled for this week, HSV supporters are keen to witness Torunarigha strengthen their defence.
This forthcoming signing indicates the club’s ambition to create stability and compete effectively in the top tier.
