The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to promoting quality education across its barracks and cantonments nationwide.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Manfon Ejim-Emekah Inter-Command Secondary Schools Competition in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Emekah, emphasized the importance of education in shaping future leaders.
He commended the theme of the competition, “Empowering Future Leaders Through Knowledge and Critical Thinking,” describing it as timely in a rapidly evolving world that demands critical thinking, analytical skills, and effective communication.

Major General Emekah also applauded the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), 6 Division Chapter, for initiating the competition. He noted that the initiative aligns with the vision of the National President of NAOWA, Mrs. Meman Femi-Oluyede, to inspire academic excellence among young students.
In her welcome address, the wife of the GOC and chairperson of NAOWA 6 Division Chapter, Mrs. Manfon Ejim-Emekah, highlighted the competition’s role in enhancing students’ intellectual capacities through quiz, debate, and essay writing.
Dignitaries at the event commended the organizers and encouraged contestants to strive for excellence.
At the end of the competition, winners will receive scholarships for higher education in any Nigerian public university of their choice.
