Wife of Murdered Rivers CSO, Son Seeks for Justice

Justice

The wife of the late Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, located in Omagwa, Rivers State, Mr. Timothy, and her son (name withheld), who were allegedly assassinated on Thursday, has cried out for help as she seeks justice for their murder.

Speaking in an interview with WAZOBIA FM on Tuesday, the wife of the late CSO narrated the ordeal, revealing that before the incident, her husband, a retired serviceman, had been receiving several threats from unknown criminals looting the stadium.

According to her, letters had been written to the Omagwa community, the Commissioner of Sports, the police, and the state governor regarding the alarming rate of insecurity within the vicinity of the stadium.

“Most arrests were made and the suspects were sent to Igwuruta Police Station, but after spending a short time there, they were released,” she said.

“You can confirm this from Commissioner Green—if he didn’t receive letters from my late husband. He wrote more than five to six times, calling for contractors to move their materials away from the stadium to prevent security challenges.”

She further explained that her late husband had identified some of the criminals who vandalized and stole equipment from Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. He even went as far as issuing warnings to the relatives of suspected criminals after making a few arrests to call their sons to order.

While recounting the events leading to the tragedy, she stated that some alleged criminals had visited one of her husband’s staff members and extorted N20,000 from him, informing him that they would be visiting her husband and one Abraham, the storekeeper.

“As soon as my husband heard about this information, he reported the issue to the community on January 28. The community security personnel searched for the three suspects but they were not found,” she said.

Recalling the tragic attack, she stated, “On January 30, we went out to get some things. When we returned home, I called my son (who had just graduated from UNIPORT and was waiting to go for the National Youth Service Corps) to open the gate for us. As he opened the gate and we drove into the compound, we suddenly heard a gunshot. We initially thought it was our car tire that had burst, but then we saw a few men surrounding my son.

“I told my husband not to get out of the car, but on seeing our son, he opened the door. Immediately, they shot him. I ran behind the house to hide, but they came after me and took me away.

“They demanded money from me, but I told them I didn’t have any, thinking it was a kidnapping operation. Fortunately, I managed to escape when they got distracted by someone who had sustained an injury. When I got home, I found my son and husband lying on the ground.”

Meanwhile, the mother of the late son, who had been waiting for his youth service, revealed that security operatives arrived at the scene and took the two corpses to the mortuary. She added that they instructed her to make an official report at the police station, but no arrests have been made so far.

As of the time of this report, the Rivers State Police Command has yet to comment on the matter.
