A new divisional police officer (DPO) has been appointed for Ahoada Town to replace the former DPO, SP Bako Angbashim, who was ambushed and murdered by criminals during an operation at Odiemude Community on Friday.
According to a statement by the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, the new DPO is Uzuokhumor Richard, a superintendent of police.
He is charged with the responsibility of conducting a thorough search in the area and arresting all those culpable in the killing of SP Bako Angbashim, the recovery of his body, and all weapons used by the criminals.
The new DPO is to be assisted in the task by mobile police officers, as a 3rd of a unit from Mopol 19 56 and a half unit from Mopol 48 tactical teams were drafted to constitute his operational team.
Meanwhile, six suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing of SP Bako Angbashim. The suspects were arrested during an operation led by Rivers State Police Commissioner, Nwoye Emeka, in Odiemude Community at the weekend.
The operation, which was aimed at recovering the remains of the murdered DPO, also saw the police recovering some locally made pistols and charms.
The statement notes that the six suspects have been interrogated at the state criminal investigation department, Port Harcourt.
Odiemude Community is said to be near-deserted as many residents have fled the area over the incident.
TPCN learns that the Rivers Police is, however, on top of the matter, with an investigation seriously ongoing.
