The Abuja chapter of the Ijaw Youth Council has asked President Bola Tinubu to focus development on the Niger Delta Region.

The Ijaw youths said creating NDDC, the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and other interventionist agencies are not enough to develop the region.

They said the region requires the political will of the federal government before the interventionist agencies can be used as tools of government to develop the region.

Speaking with our correspondent, the Abuja IYC chairman, Adam Marbo further listed some areas that the group wants the Tinubu led federal government to prioritize in the region.

“It is time for the president to look into the critical issues affecting us and our environment especially the international oil companies.

“This is because the IOCs have taken us for granted for too long and we don’t like it.

“This new administration should also focus on the Niger Delta Development Commission. The NDDC was established with a master plan on how to develop our region.

“The federal government who is giving the resources to the commission should monitor the implementation process in respect to how the money is being spent for the region.

“The NDDC master plan should enhance infrastructural development, job creation for the people and human capacity development.

“The president should also look into the seaports in our area and make them vibrant and give more job slots to our people,” he said.
