CSO asks INEC to relocate election materials from CBN to police headquarters

Civil Society Organizations in Rivers State have asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to relocate election materials from the nation’s Central Bank to police headquarters across the states.

The activists said the integrity of the 2023 general elections had already been compromised following the political affiliation of the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele with the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Section 9 of the CBN Act forbids CBN Governor from seeking elective office while holding the post of the CBN Governor.

It was reported that Emefiele is a registered member of the APC in his state which many have seen as dangerous for the country’s elections if Emefiele continues to serve as CBN governor.

Emefiele’s partisan politics became obvious when he declared his interest to contest the forthcoming presidential election without contemplating resigning from the CBN job.

Speaking with our correspondent, the state Chairman of the CSO, Ene-faa Georgewill said, “the partisan political ambition of the CBN Governor, Emefiele has compromised the integrity of the 2023 elections.

“Election materials should not be kept in CBN even if Emefiele resigns, rather such election materials should be kept at the police headquarters in each state..

“We, the Civil Society Organizations in Rivers State are using this medium to urge president and state governors to desist from appointing politicians to head career jobs.”
