Udom woos Cross River delegates, promises to fix Nigeria

Akwa Ibom State Governor and presidential aspirant under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Udom Emmanuel has said he would restore the economic deficit of Nigeria if given elected as president in 2023.

He gave the assurance while interacting with PDP delegates in Calabar, the Cross River State capital on Tuesday, noting that Nigeria needed a leader that would fix the nation after an overwhelming eight years of APC-led government.

According to him, “We are challenged by insecurity, unemployment and poor infrastructural development. We are now the poverty capital of the world. The economic indices are on a low level as our Naira is nose-diving.

“We must get it right in 2023 or Nigeria will keep going down. We need a leader who understands what development is and then stimulates economic development. We need a leader who has the capacity and has a sound economic framework to create jobs and rescue Nigeria.

“We don’t need a leader who would come and embark on further policy summersault and empty promises. So, somebody must rise up to the challenge. Therefore, I offer myself as president to rescue and restore Nigeria. I have paid dividends in the private sector and paid dividends in the political sector. The evidence is there for us all to see. Hand over Nigeria to me and I would rescue the economy.”

The former Governor of Benue state and coordinator of Udom Emmanuel Presidential Campaign Team, Gabriel Suswan, in his address, said the country needs somebody who understands the economic dynamism and current development challenges facing the nation.

On his part, the State chairman of the PDP, Venatiua Nkem, expressed his optimism over the region’s capacity to produce the next president of the country.

He maintained that the South-South has all it takes to produce one to lead the country considering its contribution to the revenue and development of the country.
