Court approves PDP national convention, tosses suit by Secondus

A three-man Appeal Panel sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has dismissed an interlocutory injunction suit filed by former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, seeking to stop the party’s upcoming convention from holding.

The Court, in its previous proceedings, had entertained the Counsel representing the Appellant Uche Secondus, Tayo Oyetibo, who in his submission urged the Court to give an exceptional judgement to the main appeal.

Oyetibo had pointed out that if his client lost the case, his right as PDP National Chairman would be destroyed.

He argued that the opposition had misunderstood the appeal, which sought to suspend the national convention pending the decision of the Court and not to prohibit the national convention from holding.

However, in its ruling today, the Court dismissed the injunction filed by Secondus.

Reading the judgement, Justice Gabriel Kolawole stated that the suit before the Court was an afterthought and an abuse of court process.

The judge ruled that the Appellant had not acted when his ward and local governments suspended him until now.

It, therefore, urged the party to proceed with the planned convention scheduled to hold on October 30.
