Colleagues, fans eulogize Sound Sultan

Celebrities have taken to social media to mourn the passing of veteran singer Olanrewaju Fasasi, popularly known as Sound Sultan who lost the battle to Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma on Sunday at the age of 44.

Earlier this year, the singer was reported to be battling throat cancer in a hospital in the United Kingdom.

Announcing his passing, his brother, Dr Kayode Fasasi begged the public to accord the family some privacy as they mourn.

The news of his death was received with shock by his colleagues and fans, which ushered in a trail of tributes for the late singer.

Afrobeat musician, Femi Kuti who dropped a comment on the last post shared on Instagram by the deceased said, “I am shocked and very SAD reading this news ( in the daily punch newspaper)of the passing of Sound Sultan (HE IS FAMILY) I pray our Creator to give his family strength at this time.”

Tuface Idibia reacted with a “No” comment with a pitch-black picture.

Efe Omorogbe, the manager of singer 2baba said, “Rest in glory my brother @soundsultan. You’ll live forever in our hearts. Allah gives.”

Veteran actress, Rita Dominic in reaction to the news said, “This is so painful… Sultan, you were a very kind man. Your talent shone through and you inspired a whole generation of artists. You will be missed. Dearly! May God rest your soul and may he give your family the strength to bear this loss.”

Former Plantashun Boiz singer, Faze said, “Too good to be gone. Worse Sunday ever. RIP my brother and friend.”

Also responding to the news, comedian Mr Macaroni said, “This is so painful. Rest In Peace Legend!! May God grant his family, friends and fans worldwide the fortitude to bear this tragic loss.”

Record label executive, Ubi Franklin also reacted, in his comment, he queried, “What is going on please? Sound sultan? How?”.

Other celebrities who paid their tributes to the singer include, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), veteran comedian, Alibaba; Johnny Drille, Wande coal, Dbanj, Vector, Kaffy and a host of others.

The singer was also laid to rest in the United State, hours after the announcement of his demise, in accordance with Islamic rites.
