Technical Manager of Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt, Stanley Eguma said his team is still, focus on securing a continental ticket at the end of the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL season.

Stanley Eguma while answering questions from newsmen after his side’s one-all draw against Wikki Tourists of Bauchi at the Adokiye Amaesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt said the team will be looking forward to claiming three maximum points on the road.

Malachi Ohawume’s late finish earned a potentially valuable point for Rivers United in their Nigeria Professional Football League race as they came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw after Stephen Gopey’s stunning header had appeared to hand Wikki Tourists FC victory.

Rivers United is currently fourth on the NPFL table with 41 points from 24 matches three points behind Akwa United who are topping the league with 45 points.

The team has failed to win at home for the second consecutive weekend but remain unbeaten in their last six NPFL matches.

He particularly stated that Rivers United is eyeing to beat Heartland FC of Owerri in their week 25 tie of the NPFL.

Eguma while responding to questions said that picking away points is the only way to make up for their slip at home.

The ‘Pride of Rivers’ has played two consecutive draws at home thereby dropping four points in both games.

He, however, said the home draws would not affect the team’s chance for a continental ticket.

Stanley Eguma, further admits that the next game against Heartland will be tough as Owerri is always a tough place for Rivers United.

”We’ve great plans, we’re still focused, this draw is not going to affect us, it’s not going to demoralize the team. We are still working very hard because we can still pick points away, We can still recover this one away from home. So we’re very positive that we can still pick points and continue with the title chase” he said.
