Imo Police kill Ahmed Gulak’s assailants

The Imo State Police Command says it has neutralized killers of APC Chieftain, Ahmed Gulak, who was murdered in the early hours of Sunday.

In a statement issued by the state’s Police Spokesperson, SP Bala Elkana, he disclosed that after the Command received a distress call on the gruesome murder of the deceased, Police Special Forces were deployed to the scene of the attack at Obiangwu junction at Ngorokpala LGA of the state with a clear instruction to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

He said an Eye witness account, especially the account given by the Driver of the vehicle conveying Ahmed Gulak to the Airport before the attack, gave concise descriptions of the assailants and the vehicles they used in the attack.

The assailants were said to have used a 2005 model silver colour Toyota Camry, 1998 Model golden colour Toyota Sienna, a white colour Toyota Hilux, and a golden colour Lexus RX 330, which helped the team establish their location.

The suspects were rounded up at Afor Enyiogugu junction in Aboh-Mbaise Local Government Area, where they were met distributing onions to locals from a trailer they confiscated.

He further revealed that the suspects, on sighting the Police, opened fire as a gun duel ensured, leaving six suspects who carried out the attack and four other members of the gang fatally injured.

He further disclosed that the ​driver who drove late Ahmed Gulak and a co- victim who survived, have identified the bodies of the attackers and also the three vehicles recovered.

Items recovered from the suspects include three (3) out of the four (4) vehicles used in attacking the deceased, three (3) AK-47 Rifles, one (1) Pistol, five (5) AK-47 magazines with ninety-two (92) rounds of live ammunition and charms.

Bala also stated that the assailants were identified as members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN), while adding that the state’s Police Commissioner, CP Abutu Yaro, FDC hailed the gallantry of the team, enjoining them to continue to protect lives and properties.
