Rivers communities deserted following renewed cult clashes

Several communities in Andoni local government area of Rivers State have been deserted following renewed cult clashes which have resulted in scores of deaths.

Scores of residents of Dema, Asaramaija, Ajakaja and Ngo fled their homes after suspected cultists invaded the area, killing scores of persons in the restive LGA.

It was gathered that fierce fighting between Icelanders and Greenlanders cult groups in Dema has spread to neighbouring communities.

Sources said some of the cult members who escaped from the community were traced to neighbouring communities by rivals who dragged them out and killed them.

Nnamdi Omoni, the Rivers State Police spokesperson said police officers and the Nigerian Navy personnel have been deployed to the area to restore normalcy.
