As a way of promoting access to health care delivery to communities in Rivers State, the Rotary of Port Harcourt Seaport has donated medical equipment to Rivers State Primary Health Care Centre at Bundu-Ama Community in Port Harcourt.

The District Governor of Rotary 9141 Rtn.Virginia Major during the commissioning of the renovated Rivers State Primary Health Care Centre at Bundu-Ama and Medical Outreach in Bundu-Ama Community said the aim of the project is to increase access to healthcare.

Virginia Major also said the aim of renovating the Health Centre is to reduce maternal mortality that is prevalent in rural communities across the country.

The District Governor of Rotary 9141 also appealed to the community to make use of the health facility to improve their lives.

She, however, assured that Rotary Club will provide additional medical equipment if needed at the health centre.

The Permanent Secretary Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board Dr Agiriye Harry represented by Dr Dede Siyeofori asked residents of Bundu-Ama to make good use of the facility.

Dr. Dede Siyeofori while commending Rotary Club said the State Government through the Primary Health Care Management Board will continue to send qualified and compassionate doctors that will provide adequate health care services to Bundu-Ama residents.

He called on the residents of the community to protect the facility and the caregivers to enable them to continue to have easy access to health care.

Earlier in his address, the President of Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Seaport, Rtn. Oseme Okoruwa said the club adopted the Bundu-Ama community after identifying their needs.

He said they decided to renovate the hospital because of the importance of the project to the community.

Oseme Okoruwa also commended Rotary District 9141 for assisting the club with funds for the project.

The President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Seaport while commending the community leaders and residents also said that the club will continue to assist the community whenever they identify any need in the area.

In his comment, the Chairman of Bundu-Ama Community Chief Tamko Kenneth Sunday appealed to the caregivers to be nice to the residents of Bundu-Ama seeking medical help from the facility.

He said the reason why residents shun the health facility is due to the shrewdness of health caregivers at the medical centre.

Tamko Sunday, however, promised to increase awareness about the renovated medical centre so that the residents of the area can now have a change of heart and start visiting the hospital.
