Eddie Murphy tried to stop Whitney Houston from marrying Bobby Brown, new book says

Eddie Murphy reportedly tried to stop Whitney Houston from marrying Bobby Brown on her wedding day.

A new book by the late star’s former lover Robyn Crawford, 58, claims ‘Eddie Murphy called to say she was making a mistake, but she pressed ahead.’

Whitney did indeed marry Bobby, now 50, on July 18, 1992, but Robyn claims she always preferred Eddie, 58, to Bobby but he let her down by standing her up.

Robyn penned: ‘She was more interested in Eddie Murphy [than Bobby Brown] but he was elusive, Mail Online reports.’

‘I speak up when things are not as they should be’

She said that one night, Eddie was supposed to come to Whitney’s house for a dinner date.

‘She was wearing a black dress and low-heeled slingbacks.’ she added, ‘For a moment, I thought “Boy, I wish she was doing that for me”.’

She was devastated because Eddie ‘never showed up that night.’

MailOnline has contacted a spokesperson for Eddie Murphy for comment.

Crawford and Houston met as teenagers and she would work closely with the singer until around 2000.

The pair had an affair which is thought to have lasted a year – and Robyn confirmed the nature of their relationship in a recent interview with Dateline NBC.

She said: ‘It was during that first summer that we met, was the first time our lips touched. And it wasn’t anything planned, it just happened.

‘And it felt wonderful. And then, not long after that, we spent the night together. And that evening was the night that we touched. And that just brought us closer.’

The two went their separate ways, with reports that growing animosity between Crawford and Bobby Brown fueled the rift between the women.

In the documentary Whitney: Can I Be Me, her former bodyguard David Roberts said that Crawford and Bobby Brown would have physical fights over their shared love of the singer.

Whitney and Bobby divorced in 2007 and Houston died unexpectedly in 2012 aged 48.
