VOTSPON backs NDDC probe, attacks critics

Voice of the Southern People of Nigeria (VOTSPON) has given its full support to the presidency for ordering a forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) beginning from 2001.

VOTSPON, in a press statement issued by its Field Mobilizer, Comrade. Ikem Anthony Kalzeeni warned those opposing the probe to desist forthwith, adding that his group will not fold its hands and watch unscrupulous elements frustrate the probe.

The statement reads in part; “that in response to the alleged call for the disbandment of the forensic audit report members of NDDC, we are now sounding it loud and clear that those involved should desist forthwith as VOTSPON is fully prepared to ensure that the auditing committee succeeds.

“We are telling them to remove their hands from it. The ongoing exposing of the loots that took place in NDDC is too catastrophic and outrageous to ignore. The matter is now before the public domain and the interest of the Niger Delta People on it is very high because looters have over the years shown nothing to justify the money they have been collecting from NDDC.

“We are telling all those criticising the forensic audit committee that we have a clear message for them and the message is that their call for the disbandment of the forensic audit report committee members has failed.

“They should disappear and hide their faces in shame. What exposure are they afraid of? Why are they opposing forensic audit? On one hand, they said it serves the interest of Senator Godswill Akpabio and not Nigerians. And I am asking them how? I am not defending Akpabio but I am asking why do they think the forensic audit that will expose what transpired in NDDC operations will not benefit Nigerians?

“We want to tell all those opposing the forensic audit of the NDDC to be ready for any action with us because we in VOTSPON will fight to ensure the full implementation of the forensic audit because it is in line with our ongoing campaign to checkmate and document all public funds collected by these current serving governors of the southern states of Nigeria.

“We will use both local and international media as a searchlight on activities of the forensic audit in order to keep the public and the world updated. We have confidence in the ability of the probe committee as well as the new NDDC management team headed by Barr. Joi Nunieh.

“We see this new management team of the NDDC as capable patriots and vowed to support it in ensuring sanity and good governance in southern Nigeria and the country in general. We hereby express our delight over all the steps taken by the administration of President Buhari to reposition the Niger Delta Development Commission and advise the new management of NDDC not to be distracted by the activities of those with unclean hands

“We also urge the interim forensic audit committee members to try and deliver on their mandate because we are waiting and watching events closely to enable us to expose failures and successes in all government agencies to our people, the masses and the electorates.

“The expectations of the people and the electorates are high and we the Voice of the Southern People of Nigeria are not ready to tolerate failure on the part of any government or its agencies.”
