Rivers State University Provides Hotline for sexual harassment cases

Management of the Rivers State University has provided a Hotline for students to report any incident of sexual harassment by their lecturers in the university.

This is as the Rivers State House of Assembly says it will give all legislative backing to institutions in the state to ensure the issue of Sex-for-grades is not replicated in the state.

The house committee chairman on Education, CHRISTIAN AHIAKWO commended the authority of the institution for providing hot line to falls tall any act of sexual harassment in the institution.

AHIAKWO who said this when he led members of the committee to the Rivers state University as part of its oversight functions expressed excitement over the judicious use of the funds appropriated to the institution.

CHRISTIAN AHIAKWO who is the lawmaker representing Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni constituency 1, while commending the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration over the modern facilities executed in the institution, promised that the assembly will not relent in making the university a first class University in the state.

The chief whip of the house, EVANS BIPI who was part of the committee members advised the management to ensure the issues of cult-related activities and security issues affecting the University is addressed.

BIPI who is the lawmaker representing Ogu/Bolo constituency also commended the authorities of the institution for the effective management of appropriated funds allocated to the institution.

Meanwhile, the acting Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University, OPUENEBO OWEI in her response on the security issues said the management will not relent in ensuring the security situation of the institution is addressed.

OPUENEBO OWEI also said the management has made available a hot line to enable students report any case of sexual harassment to the management of the institution for proper investigation.

Correspondent Femi Ogunkilede reports that other committee members which include, Nathaniel Owaji representing Ogba-Egbema-Nodni constituency 2 , Enemi George representing Asari-Toru constituency 2 and other members was aided by the management of the institution to inspect facilities executive by the Governor Nyesom Wike led administration.
