One Mr Nwozuruaka Anele has been shot dead by unknown gunmen at his residence in Alakahia community, Obio-Akpor Local Government area of Rivers State.

Our correspondent gathered that Anele who was the chairman of the Alakahia Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and a youth leader of the community was killed at about 2am on Saturday by suspected assassins who invaded his home.

The Wife of the deceased, Mrs Orlumati Nwozuruaka, while narrating the ordeal, said her husband was killed despite several pleas she and her children made to the killers.

“I woke up at midnight when I heard some footsteps in the compound. I tried to close my room window and noticed that the killers were trying to break in through our main door, I came out of my room and saw my husband awake too. I begged him not to open the door for them. We began to look for the key that leads to the back door, so he could escape but we couldn’t find it.

“They finally entered and ask my husband for his ATM card. He told them it was in his car. They asked for our phones, collected our phones, took my husband to the sitting room and shot him. The last thing I heard from my husband was ‘mummy am gone’ before he gave up.

“Before they killed my husband, they forced me to lie face down. They practically told me I will recognise them should I see their faces. My little children begged the killers not to kill their father but they hardened their hearts and killed him”

Also, the immediate elder brother of the deceased, Jeffrey Omejuriowhor-Amadi, said his late brother Owuzuruaka Anele, was killed because he was a man that stood for justice and fairness, stressing that his late brother was never a cultist, armed robber or a rapist.

He called on the state Government and all security agencies to apprehend the killers of his brother for justice to be served, while urging security agencies to fight and stop the menace of incessant killing of youths in Rivers State.

Our correspondent reports that men of the Inspector General of Police monitoring team have visited the scene of the incident.

The killing of Nwozuruaka Anele comes a month after members of different cult groups in Alakahia community denounced membership of their cult groups and embraced peace.

Another young man identified as Anebo Amadi who was a member of the All Progressives Congress in Rumuekini, in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, was also ambushed and murdered by unknown gunmen at his family house at about 5 am on Saturday.
