RSG commends Rivers contingent to the National Youth Games

The Rivers State Government has commended the athletes that represented the state at the just concluded National Youth Games in Ilorin.

Rivers State finished 18th on the medals table after winning one gold, 4 silver and two bronze medals.

The gold medal was won in Badminton female doubles after their opponent from FCT pulled out on health ground.

The Permanent Secretary of Rivers State Ministry of Sports, James Enebeli said the State Government is satisfied with the performance of Team Rivers at the National Youth Games despite their late arrival.

James Enebeli said many states that arrived early for the games did not win any medal at the 10-day sporting festival but praised Team Rivers for their resilient in winning a total of seven medals during the competition.

James Enebeli also said that the different projects being executed by the Rivers State Government contributed to the late release of funds for the National Youth Games.

He noted that sports is a cardinal priority for the present administration of Governor Nyesom Wike and assured the athletes of adequate support in future national sporting engagements.

The Coordinator of Kodian Tennis Foundation Stella Epegu has attributed the arrival of Team Rivers to the poor performance at the National Youth Games.
