Over 26 offenders have been arrested and prosecuted at the Rumuokoro mobile court constituted to try those contravening the Rivers State Street trading, illegal market and motor parks Prohibition Law 2019.

The trial Magistrate, Chief Magistrate Betty Sunny Hart, in her judgement convicted Nwachukwu Eze, Ibrahim Awelu, Inusa Sabiru, Mohammed Awelu and others with fines of 5,000 naira each for trading within the Prohibited areas.

Chidiebere Uwezike, Emmanuel Elechi, who was also tried for street trading was pardoned after presenting documents showing approval of their commercial activities from a recognised authority in the state.

The Chief Magistrate Sunny Hart, discharge and acquainted some offenders for lack of substantial evidence against them presented by the Police and task force official, while punishing some offenders by asking them to sweep some portion of the Rumuokoro junction.

Speaking to our reporter Tina Amanda, the prosecuting counsel Nathaniel Joseph, said the court proceeding is going on well, as offenders are being prosecuted accordingly, adding that the street Prohibition law will help to return sanity to the roads and streets of Portharcourt.

Our reporter observed that Rumuokoro axis is free from the usual traffic jam and all street trading activities, as road users and motorist can access the road freely.
