Judicial Commision of Inquiry into attack on court complex ends sitting

The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the violent invasion and attack on the Rivers State Judiciary and Destruction of Public Properties has concluded its public hearing.
The Chairman of the Commission Justice SIMEON AMADI during its closing remark said the commission will make its finding and recommendations from facts presented by the witnesses.

Justice SIMEON AMADI said that the commission is on a fact finding and not to witch hunt anybody.

He also commended the witnesses that came to testify during their sittings at the Rivers State Judiciary Complex in Port Harcourt.

Earlier, former Chairman Caretaker Committee Port Harcourt City Local Government PRINCE AMADI-OPARAELI said the attack on the court premises on May 11 2018 was done by the supporters of the two factions of All Progressives Congress APC in the state.

PRINCE AMADI-OPARAELI while testifying at the commission of inquiry said the APC supporters loyal to the Minister of Transportation Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi where trying to stop a court ruling that day.

He stated that some other Chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party PDP like Samuel Nwanosike and Victor Ihunwo came to the court premises to chase away the hoodlums who attacked the state judiciary complex.

PRINCE AMADI-OPARAELI also said the he was playing his role as the CTC Chairman of PHALGA whose responsibility is to ensure the peace and security of residents in the area.

Also, the Chief Registrar Rivers State Judiciary TESSY KOBANI has denied insinuations that Governor NYESOM WIKE brought judges to court on the day of the incident.

She said that the judges came to court by themselves in their own cars.

The Chief Registrar also said that the CCTV at the court premises were not working on the day of the incident.
