Tension high as soldiers invade Abonnema again.

Tension has been heightened in Abonnema Town as soldiers on Thursday, invaded the grieving Town and made arrests.

Some residents of the town fled their homes following the killing of two soldiers at the border between Abonnema and Obonoma.

The attack was allegedly carried out by illegal refinery operator on revenge mission over the destruction of their illegal refinery by the army.

At least 35 persons were also killed in the town by soldiers during the presidential and national assembly elections. An army lieutenant was also killed in the orgy of violence.

Theportcitynews gathered that the fresh attacks by soldiers is not unconnected with the gubernatorial election which is barely 48 hours.

Sources said soldiers broke into homes and arrested an unspecified number of residents.

Locals who spoke to Theportcitynews said gunshots rented the air for hours while the siege lasted.

Although the Federal Government controlled All Progressives Congress, APC, does not have candidates for the elections, the party has, however, adopted the candidate of the African Action Congress, Awara Biokpomabo, who hails from the area.

There have been coordinated arrests by the army, especially members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with critics accusing the army of working with the minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to sabotage the election.

On Wednesday, armed military personnel abducted the commissioner for education, Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja and members of his family.

The army on Thursday also abducted the liaison officer of the state government in Ogu Town, sparking mass protest in the area.

The Palace of the Amanyanabo of Okochiri Town, King Ateke Tom, was also invaded by soldiers with one person reportedly killed.

Port Harcourt Town has also experienced heavy military build-up raising concerns among residents.
