Armed men kill two soldiers in Abonnema

There was pandemonium on Saturday in Abonnema as armed men repeatedly killed two soldiers in the town.

According to sources in Abonnema, the soldiers were ambushed by thugs who opened fire on the patrol team leaving at least two soldiers dead.

Recall that the invasion of the town by soldiers during the presidential and national assembly elections led to the death of at least 30 persons including a soldier.

Theportcitynews gathered that the development has further put residents of the town who are slowly recovering from the ghosts of Saturday, February 23 presidential and national assembly elections which was marred by violence, in fear.

However, a security agent in the town who spoke to Theportcitynews said that there was reports of an attack on troops in the area but it is not clear if there were casualties.

He said that there have been pockets of retaliatory attacks by youths in the area who feel that the military invasion of the town was not necessary.

According to him :”Yes, information filtered in yesterday that there was an attack on soldiers but I am not sure if anyone died.

” There is widespread anger in the town owing to the deaths recorded during the presidential and national assembly elections”

Our attempts to contact the spokesman for the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Colonel Aminu Iliyasu for comments on the matter was not successful.
