Port Harcourt residents decry militarization of presidential election

Lorine Emenike

Residents of Port Harcourt have expressed dissatisfaction over the conduct of the presidential and national assembly elections major parts of the state.

They specifically lamented the conduct of the elections in Akuku-Toru local government, Bonny and some part of Okrika local government area and in Port Harcourt city local government area.

Mr Worgu Ihunwo an indigene of Oroagbolu community in mile four area of Obio/Akpo, said that all that transpired on Saturday the 23rd of February were clear indications that Nigerians are sick and tired of President Buhari and the APC led administration.

He said: “Though its quite unfortunate that our own brothers have been hypnotised to be used as instruments to perpetrate mayhem in the last Saturday’s election, and I also curse all those southerners that have allowed themselves to be used to cement the barbaric plans of these set of tyrants to want to forcefully take power into their hands even when it is crystal clear that Nigerians don’t want them again, because of the epileptic economy the present administration had left us including high-level insecurity and headship in the country.

“Because, they so desperate to take power, they even implored the use of men of the Nigerian army to conduct common election just to scare voters away, so they can have their way and thumbprint as much as they want.

“Men of the Nigerian army are to protect the lives and properties of the people in the country and to also go to war with armies from another country and not to be used by a particular group of tyrants to achieve their selfish goals; goals that are wildly against the benefit of the entire people of the country.

“Because they want to manipulate the results, they are delaying the collation and the announcement of the results.

“Also, this is the first time in the history of Nigeria’s election that the collation of results and its announcement is taking this long; it is a clear indication that something is seriously cooking, but I assure you that the tyrants will fail in their plans, because there is indeed a God that hears the prayers of Christians in this country ”
