The Executive chairman of Akuku Toru local government area, Rowland Sekibo, has denied claims by the Nigerian Army, 6 Division, Port Harcourt that he masterminded the attack on the military in Abonnema during the Presidential and National Assembly election on Saturday.

The Nigeria Army, 6 division, had indicted Roland Sekibo, the Chairman Akuku Toru LGA, the CSO Akuku Toru LGA and one Kenneth Opusingi from Kula community as the masterminds of the unexpected/ unprovoked attack.

Rowland Sekibo in a statement alleged that the military attacked supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP when they resisted one Christian Don-Pedro who was aided by the military to cart away electoral materials in Abonnema.

The Akuku Toru council boss in the statement by his Press secretary explained that the PDP supporters who were not armed only prevented the snatching of electoral materials adding that the voters lacked the capacity to confront the military.

Rowland Sekibo called on the international community to prevail on the military to lift the siege on Abonnema adding that seventeen indigenes of Akuku Toru have been killed while three hundred persons have also been arrested.

He, however, urged the people of Akuku Toru to remain law-abiding despite the provocation particularly the killing and destruction of lives and property.

Meanwhile, the Paramount Ruler of Opu-Kula in Kula Kingdom King Hope Opusingi has denied insinuations by the Nigeria Army, 6 division, that Kenneth Opusingi masterminded Saturday’s fracas in Abonnema, calling it a lie and diversionary.

He said that Kenneth Opusingi was nowhere around Abonnema when the crisis erupted last Saturday.
