Girl, 19, two others killed in cult battle in Rivers state

Another shoot out by suspected rival cult groups at Omuike village in Aluu, Ikwerre local government, on Sunday night, the 20th of January has left three persons dead and one critically injured.

An eye witness who disclosed the ugly incident which took place at about 9:25 pm, told our reporter that three persons including a girl of about nineteen (19) years old who was on her way back from the Christmas holiday met her untimely death yesterday with two other young men.

Theportcitynews gathered that the fourth person, a widower with three children who also received three shots of flying bullets was critically injured, and was rushed to the hospital where he is presently being attended to.

Recall that a similar event in the area in October 2018 led to the death of at least four persons with locals saying that as much as 15 persons were killed in reprisals.

Hon. Samuel Oboni, the Chief Security Officer of Ikwerre local government area, where the incident happened frowned at the pitiably incident.

Speaking for the local government council, he called on traditional leaders, youths and all residents of the local government to eschew crime.

He said the “Crime will only retard development in the local government” and urged resident of the local government to fully take part in reporting suspected cultist and criminals so as to restore peace and development in the area.

Continuing, Hon. Oboni said crime fighting is not just the security agents business but a collective effort by all in a particular society.

He also assured the entire people of the local government that the Hon. Samuel Nwanosike’s led local government administration will not rest until total peace is restored to communities in the local government.

Meanwhile, the police command in the state is yet to make an official statement on the matter.
