Ex-Councillor, five others shot dead in fresh attack

At least six people including a former Council legislator identified as Mr Sunday Bulle were shot dead on Wednesday night by gunmen, who attacked Kwata Community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, Punch reports.

It was learnt that Mr Sunday recently relocated to Kwata community to escape the series of attacks in his native Lobirin Community of Barki Ladi Council Area, where he was a councillor before he was shot dead by the gunmen

A resident of the community, Mr Solomon Dalyop who confirmed the incident said on Thursday that several others were also injured during the operation which took place around 7pm.

Dalyop said: “On Wednesday, gunmen arrived Kwata community around 7pm. Before you know what was happening, they just opened fire on the people while shouting “Allahu Akbar” during the operation.

“When they finished and ran away, six people lay dead including a former councillor who relocated to the community from Barki Lady Local Government Area. What we are witnessing in various communities in Plateau state is a new form of unprovoked aggression against the people and the government and the security agents must rise in defence of the communities before the gunmen wreck more havoc on innocent civilians “

Both the police and the Special Task force deployed to maintain peace in the state were yet to make any public statement over the latest killing which came few hours after the State Governor, Mr Simon Lalong promised to do everything possible to sustain peace in the state.

The Governor, who said he had directed the security agents to stem the resurgence of attacks in Plateau communities in recent times, had in a statement issued by the Information Commissioner for Information, Mr Yakubu Dati, assured the people that perpetrators of the attacks would be hunt down.
