NSF: Rivers eliminate Plateau to reach Para-soccer semis

The Rivers Para-soccer team yesterday in Abuja eliminated Plateau in the Day Two match of the ongoing 2018 National Sports Festival to reach the semi-finals

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the match played in the handball pitch had Rivers win the game 4-2.

Rivers took control of the game in the first half by scoring twice against their opponents who could not find the net more than twice at the regulation time.

The Plateau Heach Coach, David Vogam, told newsmen at the end of the match that he was disappointed that his players could not win their second game.

“They did not utilise their scoring chances; in a game, there will always be a winner. We also lost our first game against FCT 7-3. It is unfortunate that the god of soccer was against us in this competition,” he said.

His Rivers counterpart, Tony Chili, said he would immediately prepare for the semi-final match against Ogun on Thursday.

“I’m happy that my players won their second game; they played according to instructions and received good results.

“We have a target to win all our games and winning a gold medal in this competition to make our state government proud,” he said.

Eight states are participating in the Para-soccer competition.
