Federation Cup: Sunshine Queens eliminated as Rivers Angels, Ibom Angels progress

The Owena girls have crashed out of the competition, while last year’s finalists are through to the semi-final of the competition

2015 winners Sunshine Queens and Confluence Queens have crashed out, while champions Rivers Angels and Ibom Angels are through to the semi-final of the 2018 Federation Cup.

Strikes in each half from Yetunde Adegboyejo ensured Edwin Okon’s side brushed aside the Owena girls at the Lafia City Stadium on Wednesday and edged closer to retaining the title.

In Calabar, Confluence Queens were eliminated from the competition by Edo Queens after a narrow 1-0 win at the U.J. Esuene Stadium.

While 2017 finalists Ibom Angels stepped up their quest to make a back-to-back final as they overcame close-door rivals Delta Queens in Enugu.

At the Dipo Dina Stadium, Bayelsa Queens overpowered Osun Babes as second-half efforts of Adebisi Saheed and Joy Jerry helped the 2015 and 2016 finalists seal a semi-final spot.

In the semi-final fixtures, Rivers Angels, who survived 2015 champions will battle 2016 finalists Bayelsa Queens in their quest to retain the national championship this year.

Both teams will be meeting at this stage of the competition for the second time on the bounce as the Port Harcourt girls earned a 4-0 over the Yenagoa based side on October 5, 2017.
