Jonathan to resume lecturing job at UOE

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has said that he would like to go back to his lecturing job if considered by the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.

The ex-president said this during 35th/ 36th convocation ceremony and the investiture by the management and staff of Ignatius Ajuru University of education.

Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, who was honoured with the award of ” Icon of Democracy ” by the management and students of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, expressed gratitude for the honour of naming a library in the school after his wife.

He said that in his years of service, he spent ten years as a lecturer in the institution when it was still known as the Rivers State college of education.

He said he enjoyed being a lecturer and helping to train young people into a great future, adding that he would love to be considered by the school management, to be offered the privilege of spending his post-president years as a lecturer as lecturing gives him joy and fulfilment.

He commended Governor Wike-led government for the support he gave the university in its development and also commended the school management for the good structures in the university.

He congratulated Pastor David, for his award, as “Education Crusader”, saying that it was quite deserving.

In his welcome address, the Pro-chancellor of the university, His Majesty, King Aaron Miller Ikuru, Ikut the 7th, of Andoni, stated that ” It is common knowledge that convocations in every university are total and symbolic as it marks the successful conclusion of an academic enterprise in the life of a student.

“I congratulate all the graduands in whose interest that we are all gathered here today. Needless to say that it takes commitment, dedication and perseverance to be counted worthy in character and in learning to partake in this great occasion as Graduands. ”

On his part, the vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele, said that graduands that convocation marks the end of their studentship in the university but that they can come back to the university for higher degrees.

He charged the graduands to be worthy ambassadors of the university.

He said that the total numbers of the graduating students are 4184 students, 489 masters graduands, 152 postgraduate diploma graduands and 3543 bachelor’s degree graduands. He said 15 of the graduands made first class.

He pointed out that the Ndele Campus, an extension of the university in Emohua Local Government Area deserves special attention in terms of electricity supply.

He lamented that the former electricity poles were vandalized by hoodlum and as a result, the university spends huge amount of money on generators to power the campus both morning and night.

He also condemned the purported allegation by the state chairman of the faction APC, Ojukaye Flag-Amakree, he said it’s all a fabrication and that it is stupid, especially coming from someone that did not attempt university education. He said the state chapter of ASUU, SSANU and the students union condemned it.
