Youth leader wants clergies to stay off politics

Danagogo Amachree, the youth leader of the Bible Society, Rivers State chapter, has advised leaders of various churches in the state to dissociate themselves from politics as it has misguided their judgement in correcting the ills in the society.

Danagogo made the statement when he was addressing newsmen at this year’s annual children quiz competition at Christ Church, Port Harcourt.

The youth leader of the state’s bible society said part of the solution to youth restiveness in the state today is for the church to stand as one body and boldly correct the ills in the society without sentiment or favour, instead of doing things for ulterior motives or to attract selfish benefits for themselves.

He maintained that the nation is facing serious challenges because children are not educated properly. He said that apart from the Christian religious studies been taught in schools, which is given very little time to be taught, children should be given quality time to study the bible which is the word of God and also the bedrock of the Christian society.

Dangogo noted that the sixty-six books in the Bible which are packed with wisdom should also be allowed to be impacted in the children.

According to him, when parents or educators begin to properly teach the children the Bible very well and relate it to them, it will help them become better persons in the society.

However, the youth leader also used the medium to ask for sponsorship. He said this year’s annual children bible quiz was made possible mainly by Christ Church and others and therefore solicited for sponsorship to help imbibe biblical knowledge upon the children, as it will help groom them into becoming better future Leaders.

Also, Mrs Essien, who represented Christ Church, applauded the organizers of the Bible quiz competition for their forthrightness.

She said that Bible reading will not only make them know the word of God but will also equip them physically and spiritually to stand the test of time.

She also advised parents to train up their children in the way they should go so that when they are old they should not depart from it like the Bible had ordered.

She added that as Christians, there is a need to be up and about so as to raise a generation that will stand for the Lord, that will stand the test of time against all the things that are buffeting them on the internet and on social media.

“We need to teach our children the word of God. We don’t just have an excuse or an option than to teach them the word of God and let them know the word of God so that they will be able to stand.

“In this generation, they need the word of God to stand. If they don’t have the word of God, then we have lost a generation” she noted.

Also, master David Osunwo, a participant at the competition, used the medium to appreciate the organizers of the quiz competition. He said the quiz had not only enabled them to memorize the Bible but also to know it at heart and stand for it.

He encouraged other children to study the bible to understand the word of God properly, which will help them in the future.

Five Nursery and primary schools participated in the school quiz competition, and six churches participated for the children from churches competition.

For the nursery and primary competition, First Baptist nursery and primary school came first, while for children who participated in the children from church category, St. Paul took the first position.
