No agreement yet on resumption of oil exploration – Gani Topba

The National Coordinator of the Ken Saro-Wiwa Associates, Gani Topba, has said nobody agreed on the resumption of oil activities in Ogoni Land at a meeting with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.

He made this known while handing over an invitation letter from the Minister of State for Petroleum resources for a meeting to the family of Saro-Wiwa in Bane, Khana Local Government Area. He said there was never a time stakeholders of Ogoni agreed on Oil resumption.

Gani Topba told Ken Saro-Wiwa’s family that oil exploration can only commence in Ogoni Land after Ken Saro-Wiwa has been cleared of all murder charges by Federal Government.

“We have not at anytime agreed on the way forward of draining Ogoni oil through shell or through Robo Michael. It is not what we agreed at the meeting.

“We don’t have that kind of agreement, so this is a total indictment on some of us who the Ogoni people believe in and who attended that meeting.

“It is very clear. I want to also assure the Ogoni leaders that the propaganda going around that DSS will clamp down on Ogoni leaders who reject this backdoor re-entering of Shell with Robo Michael is false.

“DSS Director cannot involve in such a thing. The Ken Saro-Wiwa Associates has confidence in the director of the DSS.

Responding on behalf of the Wiwa’s Family, Harry Wiwa called on the Federal Government to cancel the venue of the proposed meeting from the palace of the Gbenemene Tai Kingdom to the Suanu Finima hall Bori Headquarters so as to allow for more participation of Ogoni people.
