Democracy Day: Wike’s administration lists key projects initiated and completed in 3 years.

In line with the 2018 edition of the National Democracy Day Celebration, Rivers State Government has listed projects initiated and completed by the Nyesom Wike-led administration in its 3-year lifespan.

In a Tuesday, May 29th report by the Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on media, Simeon Nwakaudu, titled ‘Rivers Development: Phenomenal Progress In Three Years’, the administration outlined some of the key projects that it has thus far executed and some of the on-going projects it hopes to complete in time to come.

Some of the projects listed in the report include the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park, construction of the Ecumenical Centre, remodeling of the Rumuokoro Bus Park and many others.

RIVERS DEVELOPMENT : PHENOMENAL PROGRESS IN THREE YEARS :

▪STRATEGIC SPECIAL PROJECTS

Closely linked to the road infrastructure are key strategic special projects that are critical to the economic development of the state. Over the last three years, Governor Wike has rolled out key special projects designed for the benefit of the people.

COMPLETED PROJECTS

1. Construction of Port Harcourt Pleasure Park

This is an iconic project that has changed the landscape of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. Through engineering ingenuity, an abandoned borrow pit was transformed into the best tourist destination in the entire country.

This beautiful facility plays host to at least 50,000 fun seekers weekly and has become a major economic facilitator in the state.

2. Construction of Ecumenical centre –

The Rivers State Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt is an initiative of Governor Wike aimed at building the foundation of Christian Unity. Built by construction giant, Julius Berger, the Rivers State Ecumenical Centre is a testimony that Rivers State is truly a Christian State.

3. Remodeling of Rumoukoro Market & Bus Park –

This Modern Market and Park was designed principally to check street trading along the Rumuokoro axis.

The Rumuokoro Market and Park has 608 open stalls, 91 lock up shops and Modern Park for transporters. The market has been delivered to the traders for business.

A transparent balloting of shops was organised by the Rivers State Governor to ensure that traders benefited directly.

4. Construction of Chief of Army Staff Guest House, PH –

The Rivers State Government under the leadership of Governor Wike constructed and handed over the Chief of Army Staff Guest House to the Nigerian Army.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike stated that his administration resolved to construct the lodge as part of its resolve to give the Chief of Army Staff and other principal officers befitting accomodation whenever they are in Rivers State.

5. Landscape Architecture of Air force Overhead Bridge –

This is a beautiful landscaping project near the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park. It has changed the scenery of city, initiating the process of restoring the garden city status of Port Harcourt.

ONGOING PROJECTS

1. Dredging and Reclaimation Works at Ogbunabali/Nkpogu Location –

This is a project aimed at resolving the security challenge in this neighbourhood by clearing the mangroove and reclaiming land for commercial/residential housing.

This project has also addressed the environmental challenges of the area.

2. Construction of Council of Traditional Rulers Complex, Port Harcourt

This is a befitting secretariat for the traditional rulers. It has ultra-modern facilities for the traditional rulers to hold their meetings and conferences.

The decision to construct the new secretariat was taken after the former secretariat degenerated to an embarrassing condition.

3. Landscape Archt. Imple./Maintenance at Airforce Flyover Crater & Recreation Park –

This is an recreation and beautification project aimed at reviving Port Harcourt and making the city pleasant to the eyes.

4. Construction of Prototype Housing for Nigeria Airforce Base,

As part of the Governor Wike’s commitment to encouraging security agencies to serve the state better, the Rivers State Government invested in this project to boost the morale of Air Force Personnel.

5. Fencing of Buguma Police Station –

This is another support to security agencies operating in the state. It is a major contribution to the Nigeria Police in Asari Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.

6. Completion of NYSC Quarters in Ido, ASALGA –

An investment in the youth development. This project is targeted at improving the convenience and security of corps members serving in Asari-Toru Local Government Area.

7. Shore Protection Work @ Ase-Azaga, Isukwu, Oniukwu, Obiofu, & Utu Communities, Ndoni. –

In a major move to protect these five Ndoni communities from the corrosive effect of the Rivers Niger, the Wike administration initiated this shore-line protection project.

Former Rivers State Governor, Dr Peter Odili described the project as the best gift from Governor Wike to Ndoni people. This project will project these communities and save them from being wiped out.

8. Construction of PPK Cinema/Fast Food Restaurant

Governor Wike is expanding the frontiers of the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park to attract more tourists to the state. To this end, the State Government is constructing cinemas and restaurants of international standards to serve visitors to the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park. This project is being handled by Julius Berger.

9. Renovation of DSS office Building & Command House, Port Harcourt

Considered the very best in terms of support to security agencies, Governor Wike is using these projects to boost the operational efficiency of the Department of State Services.

10. Kula Sand filling and Reclamation Work –

Land Reclamation is vital to riverine communities of the state. The Kula Sandfilling and Reclamation Work is targeted at acquiring land for economic growth of Kula.

11. Renovation of Vocational Craft Center, Abonnema, Akulga, R/S –

Youth Empowerment is one of the key priorities of the Wike administration. This facility has been rehabilitated for the training of youths in Akuku Toru Local Government Area
