Chioma Okafor Commits to Super Falcons, Receives Call-Up

Chioma Okafor, a forward from the University of Connecticut in the United States, has received an invitation to participate in the Super Falcons training camp in Lisbon in preparation for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The 20-year-old striker has officially opted to represent Nigeria, thus resolving the ambiguity surrounding her international career.

Having a Nigerian father and a Malawian mother, she was eligible to compete for either nation. After discussions with both football associations, she made the decision to play for Nigeria. The Malawian Football Association has acknowledged her choice and extended their best wishes for her future endeavors.

Okafor is recognized for her speed and exceptional goal-scoring abilities. Her inclusion is anticipated to enhance Nigeria’s offensive capabilities as the team strives to secure its 10th continental championship. The Super Falcons are set to commence their training camp in Lisbon shortly.

They have arranged a friendly match against Portugal, followed by another encounter with Ghana’s Black Queens in Morocco. This selection represents a significant milestone in Okafor’s career and may pave the way for her debut on one of Africa’s most prominent football platforms. WAFCON 2025 is slated to commence on July 5 in Morocco. Nigeria’s Super Falcons are aiming for their tenth title since clinching the inaugural edition hosted by Nigeria in 1998.
